More information about Cartagena
Cartagena is an ancient mediteranean port rich in history. It has been home to a variety of cultures, all of which have left their mark. Carthaginians and Roman civilisations thrived here because of its ideal marine location. It was then under Arab control until Fernando the third incorporated it into the Kingdom of Castile.
You'll find many attractions which will bring this history alive. Visit its old (13th Century) cathedral, or the Sea Wall (18th century). The National Museum of Maritime Archaelogy is well worth a visit. It is also home to the National Centre of Underwater Archaeological Investigation. Down the road, you'll find a prototype submarine designed by Cartagenian inventor Isaac Peral.
Cartagena is the second largest town in the region. You'll also find more excellent shopping facilities and restaurants here.
